What it does, and what it never does

It only reads your screen

  • Looks at the shop windows and chat box, the same pixels you see.
  • Reads item names and prices off them.
  • Sends only prices: item, price, quantity, the shop owner's name as the FM shows it, and the time.
  • Puts you on the site's leaderboard under the name you choose, or as Guest.

It never touches your game

  • Never clicks, types or presses a key in MapleStory.
  • Runs no macros, prompts or scripts in the game.
  • Never takes control of your client or your computer.
  • Never reads or changes game files or game memory, and never reads network traffic.
  • Never uploads screenshots. Images stay on your PC.

The whole program is plain Python you can open in Notepad. Using it is your choice and your responsibility; it only does what a person writing prices down by hand would do.

Safe to run

  1. Nothing hidden. There's no .exe. The watcher is plain Python files you can open in Notepad and read line by line, and the full source is public on GitHub.
  2. Official installers only. install.bat installs Python and the Tesseract text reader through Windows' own installer, or straight from python.org and Tesseract's official release page. Nothing else gets installed.
  3. Stays in its folder. It only reads and writes files inside its own folder. It never opens your other files, browsers, passwords or game files.
  4. No account, no login. You never sign in or give an email. Your prices go up under a random ID and the name you choose, or Guest.
  5. Updates are locked down. Updates come only from this site, and each one is checked against its fingerprint before it installs. Only the Club FM admin can publish an update; contributors and the price data can't change the program.
  6. Easy to remove. To uninstall, close the black window and delete the folder. That's it.

Windows may ask whether you want to run install.bat or start.bat because they came from the internet. That's normal for any downloaded file; choose Run.

Setup, about five minutes

  1. Download and unzip FMWatcher.zip.
  2. Double-click install.bat. It installs Python and the Tesseract text reader through Windows' own installer. Close it when it says Done.
  3. Want your name on the leaderboard? Open config.json in Notepad and type it between the quotes in "name": "". Leave it empty to show up as Guest.
  4. Open MapleStory, then double-click start.bat and leave its window open in the background.
  5. Optional check: double-click snapshot.bat with a shop open. It saves a picture in the review folder showing the boxes it reads.

While you shop

  1. Open the Change Channel window once, so listings carry your channel.
  2. Keep the minimap in view. It tells us which FM room you're in.
  3. Scroll each shop slowly to the bottom so every row is read.
  4. Rest your mouse on an equip's row for a second. The watcher reads the tooltip the game shows you, so the site can price it by its stats.

Your prices show on the site within about 15 minutes.

Updating

Like a game launcher: every time you open start.bat it checks this site and patches itself. When the site shows the purple update banner, or the watcher window says a new version is out, close the watcher and open start.bat again. Your settings and saved prices are kept.

Running a copy from before October 19? It can't update itself yet. Download it once more and copy your config.json into the new folder. From then on it updates on its own.
